Requirements

Education

  • Canadian CPA designation

  • U.S. CPA designation or EA (Enrolled Agent)

  • Completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program (Levels 1, 2 & 3)

  • Tax specialization as demonstrated by a designation in at least one of the following fields:

    • Trust and Estate Planning (TEP)

    • U.S. In-Depth Taxation (MST or LLM)

    • GST/HST (GST/HST In-depth Tax Course)

    • Canadian International Tax (CPA Canada International In-Depth Tax Course)

      Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

    • Other specialist designation

Years of experience

  • Approximately 7+

Technical Capabilities

  • Reviewing complex Canadian and U.S. personal tax returns involving investments in controlled-foreign corporations, foreign affiliates, partnerships, etc.

  • Reviewing complex Canadian and U.S. corporation, partnership, and trust returns

  • Performing technical research

  • Consulting with client on technical matters including providing technical interpretations on specific U.S. and Canadian tax issues, guidance on cross-border structuring of businesses and investments, and other advanced planning matters.
